Julia Burrer is a dance artist and educator. She received her BFA from SUNY-Purchase College, after which she danced with Colleen Thomas, Bill Young, Gwen Welliver, Steeledance, and the Median Movement. From 2007-2015, she performed with Doug Varone and Dancers, teaching nationally and internationally. Julia has since staged Varone’s works on companies and universities throughout the U.S., including assisting with the 2013 remounting of Les Troyens at the Metropolitan Opera. She directed 92nd Street Y’s teen performing company, Harkness Repertory Ensemble, from 2011-2015 and has been a teaching guest artist at Bates Dance Festival and Gibney Dance Center. She received her MFA from University of Washington, where she taught extensively, in addition to performing with Chamber Dance Company. She has been on faculty at Marymount Manhattan College, Barnard College, and The College at Brockport (SUNY). She is currently an Adjunct Instructor at Montclair State University.
